Today is the second day of a whole lotta shaking and jack hammering and ear drum shattering noise at home. Tiger, the wonder drug, is not happy. To show his displeasure, he is barking and scratching up the window screens, trying to get at all the strangers and undefined clamor inside. The foundation repair company is working.
Last year, I noticed just the smallest of cracks near the top of the closet door in our guest bedroom. Then the hall linen closet started sticking and in order to get a towel (or put one in there) I had to grab the door knob and put one foot on side of the door and tug and pull and pull and tug until I could get it to open up. Then, a crack appeared over the door in the guest bathroom. So, I called the foundation people. Mind you, they weren’t large gaps in my wall, just minor flaws that drew my eyes to the affected places. But, those same minute and almost non-existent fissures, were affecting other parts of the house and the result is that I now have 8 large holes in the floor of my home. A few small cracks and now my foundation needs a costly repair. I have been displaced from my home office, am working at the breakfast table while enduring this unworldly pulsating thumping,
Boomer Wisdom would like to encourage you to pay attention to your crack. Well, not that crack! LOL, Well, yes, but, that is a post for another day. I’m talking about those very tiny cracks that you see appearing in your character, the person you would like to think that you really are inside. The first time you hear someone using profanity, it offends you, but, you are silent, vulgar crack. When you hear someone disparaging another human being, because of their race/gender/culture/sexuality, but, you are quiet, inhumane crack. You notice that there is a need in your church, community, family, government, but, you refuse to act, apathetic crack. You drive by a homeless person without it making you think about the needs of those less fortunate and you have no plans to make a difference, callous crack. You used to pray and attend Church(Synagogue/Mosque/Temple) on a regular basis, but, you got plans now, spiritual crack.
In time, those tiny breaks, which seem imperceptible, become giant fissures that undermine your integrity and moral compass. Once you have neglected to address the little cracks, you can become someone who can watch the repeated carnage of innocent victims without batting an eye. It’s life, you say and turn the channel to watch Scandal (or any of the other media balms)
Boomer wisdom encourages you to address those tiny cracks that would change the goodness in you. Because what you see on the surface, can be an indicator of what’s happening within, a possible serious shift in your character foundation. Better to address it now, before the person you once were is no more.
Blessings to you!
