life Vision Board wisdom

Write the Vision

Recently I decided to try something different in the process of goal(Vision) setting and achievement. It was spurred on by my seemingly inability to make some changes that are definitely needed and most surely desired. For years I have written short stories, poetry and attempted(as many have) to complete a novel or two that is burning within me to be poured out. But, it has stubbornly refused to emerge in totality, only bits and pieces have nudged their way out.

I have a sister, Rosie, who is now a life coach and decided to have her help me pave the way for my success in getting this breech baby out and on its way into the light! She said she would do it for free, but, I refused that offer. It is my fervent belief that one must pay(in some way) for that which is precious to you. How else can you fully appreciate the gift that follows? We settled on a price and a time and invited others as well. In the end, none of the other attendees showed up. It is true that what is important to you is not important to others. Perhaps, your season to achieve or aspire does not coincide with your friends. There are times when the gun goes off and only you will hear its urgency to get ready, get set and go!

The plan was to complete a vision board that highlighted the goals that were most dear and important to us for 2018. We met at her house, two of my three daughters, Monica and Monay, the three Qs,(my granddaughters and I, and set about concretely putting down those things that are most important to and for us, to see to completion in 2018.

There is a Bible verse in Habakkuk 2:2 that reads, “Write the vision
And engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets, So that the one who reads it will run.” (Amplified Bible) This has been used to let you know that what you would do, to write it in such a way that it is understandable. It also is a reminder that you are to “run” or move diligently to achieve what is written. It brings to mind the verse that says, without knowledge, the people perish. In other words, if you can’t find the words(pictures) to tell(say) what it is you would accomplish, how can you create the paths that will take you there and get you on the road to see it to fruition?

Jim Carrey tells the story of how in his lowest moment as a broke and depressed actor, he wrote out a check to himself for the sum of $10 million dollars and dated in for 10 years in the future. Less than 10 years later, he received 10 million dollars for his movie Dumb and Dumber. If you can see it(write it) and believe it(work toward it), you can achieve it.

Boomer wisdom believes that you can never make those important milestones occur in your life if you don’t think them meaningful enough to write them down. Looking at those goals every day is a way to remind you of what is really important to you. It also helps you to see how the hand of God has moved in your life, miraculously blessing you to see the desires of your heart in tangible forms.

Boomer girl hopes that you take the time to write your visions, make them plain and run with them until their completion!

Blessings to you all!
