I have a boutique garden spot that my husband has erected next to the fence in the direct line of sight of my home office window. Those upside down tomato cages were placed there to limit the space my rowdy dog had to dig inside and uproot what was planted.
Hopefully, you can imagine how pretty it looks when the fiery red peppers are blooming, along with big, bouncy tomatoes and a fringe of petunias, dressed in rainbow colors.
Its hard to see that potential when you are looking at it now. Right now, it looks like you see it. Something that could be something beautiful. If only……
When you are at the beginning of a quest, getting to where you’re headed can sometimes seem improbable/impossible/unattainable. The well known Taoist proverb says, a journey of a thousand miles starts with one single step. In order to create a stunning piece of art, you will most likely use more than one crayon. And, nothing happens it you just look at the crayon, you do have to put some energy into it. 🙂
I’m writing this to encourage you. If in your marriage, you are looking around at your partner and see something that has become unappealing, perhaps, a little time tending to that garden will reap the rewards that your heart yearns for. Maybe, it’s not a relationship, but, your health. You are overweight, out of shape, not taking the medications that you are prescribed, or very lackadasical in doing so. Pull some weeds. You know, reach in the fridge(and pantry), pull out that ice cream/cake/pies/sugary drinks/chocolate/snickers, discard whatever it is that you know is preventing your garden (your BODY) from reflecting the beauty that it should. For some, it’s the realization that you are not where you would wish you were in your career or retirement. It is as if your life is filled with dead stuff that has crowded out the real you. The potential is still there you know. You have to stop whining and start weeding!
Boomer wisdom would ask you to get back down on your knees (pray) and ask for strength to make the changes you really want to see. Then, while you are down there, pull a few weeds(anger, selfishness, unforgiveness, gluttony, procrastination), plant some new flowers( love, grace, temperance, courage), water often(everything grows once its hydrated with attention and affection). Then, stand back and watch your garden bloom again. It can and it will.
Blessings to you all!
Love it!
